Green Book youth project
The Bundaberg Region is one of just 16 locations throughout Australia selected to deliver the Green Book project to connect youth with the environment.
The program is funded through the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and ABC Heywire Youth Innovation grants.
Green Book is about connecting communities, taking environmental action, learning, and making change for a brighter future. It seeks to encourage youth to connect with their local, natural environment and to build and strengthen local communities.
Partnering with schools, youth groups and community organisation, Council will be running a series of environmental projects around the region to help young people gain hands-on experience and knowledge on environmental care.

Bush Tucker Talk
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this linkYoung people who are part of the Green Book youth project had a firsthand experience learning about native plants and their uses during the Bush Tucker Garden Tour with Ray Johnson at Gin Gin Landcare on Friday 11 December.
They also learnt how to make potting mix and planted a bush tucker plant to take home.
It was also a unique opportunity to learn about indigenous symbols and their meanings with Faren Munro, member of the Jinjinburra Aboriginal Corporation.
Green Book youth members had a great time painting boomerangs, gaining an understanding of the symbols and their significance.

Birds, bees and kids happy with Australian Wildlife Week event

It was a successful, fun and productive event with the community members young and old, making bird feeders & bee hotels and learning about Australian wildlife.

Youth Leadership and Project Management Conference a great success.
Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this linkCouncil organised a Youth Leadership and Project Facilitation Conference on Wednesday 30 September at Fairymead House at Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, developing champions for the delivery of the Green Book project. It also provided basic understanding of project management to develop and facilitate environmental programs for Project Green Book.

Local youth recently explored the great outdoors through a bus tour, visiting three of the region's natural areas, learning hands on nature skills and hearing about native plants and animals.
