Welcome to our Community Development Update page. We'll be sharing news, events and asking for your feedback.
So, what is Community Development?
Community development in local government involves individuals, families with children, youth, seniors, groups and clubs, networks, businesses, community services and organisations, non-government, and government (State and Federal) organisations, ratepayers and residents, seasonal visitors and tourists.
Community development aims to generate outcomes that enable the community to come together to be active, to participate, to engage and to be supportive and sustainable; to develop active environments in which people live, work, play and invest.
What is the role of a Community Development Officer?
We are not the experts in your immediate community. Council’s Community Development Team walks with the community, listening for shared concerns, gaps and barriers. We support community’s ability to engage with their wider networks, services, local assets and provide guidance on developing projects to address concerns.
The Council’s Community Development team do this by responding to demand. Council encourage community members to participate in changing the issues that affect their lives through participatory action groups. This is where YOU can get involved with making a difference to your community!
Council collaborates with community groups to uncover place based opportunities for sustainable outcomes. As groups gain confidence, access funding, share resources, strengthen their partnerships, learn new skills, and participate, the rewards are broadly cast throughout the Bundaberg Region because of, the valuable partnerships developed.
The Council’s Community Development Team also facilitate and attend many forum meetings within the Bundaberg Region, such as the Community Youth Collective, All Abilities Alliance, Local Level Alliance, Housing and Homeless Forum, and many more.
