The Small Business Friendly Commitment Members of the program commit to working with small businesses, industry, community, and government to be more small business friendly by signing the Small Business Friendly Commitment which includes 5 core principles and 15 deliverables.

• Providing support and guidance to improve capabilities
• Helping improve digital literacy and drive the use of technology
• Promoting opportunities to grow skills and workforce.
Fostering ecosystems that help small businesses thrive
• Actively communicating and engaging with small businesses
• Enhancing policies, practices and minimising red tape
• Building resilience to respond and recover from disasters and major business disruptions
Promoting small businesses and vibrant economies
• Promoting opportunities and raising the profile of small businesses
• Supporting place-making and the creation of circular economies
• Supporting trusted networks that help small businesses learn and succeed
Enabling small business development and success
• Creating an annual small business action plan (or equivalent)
• Developing our understanding of the economic environment
• Championing small business investment and procurement
Working together for small business
• Advocating about challenges and opportunities facing small businesses
• Collaborating and partnering to enhance the operating environment for small business
• Monitoring and reporting on our performance
Members of the program must also meet the membership requirements including:
• Authorising an organisational representative and proxy to champion the commitment
• Implementing an annual Small Business Action Plan, or equivalent, each financial year
• Actively participating in at least four SBF Program activities each financial year
• Attending the SBF Program Annual Conference in person or virtually
• Publicly promoting local small business initiatives
• Submitting a financial year Annual Report to the QSBC by 30 September each year.

Queensland Small Business Commissioner resources
- Small Business Wellness Coaches | Business Queensland – Free support from Business Wellness Coaches to help small business owners with unique and personal business challenges, needs and opportunities in a free one-on-one, supportive environment. Wellness coaches are available across Queensland to work with you or any of your family members who are employed in your business.
- Small Business Financial Counselling Service - Southern Queensland – Free confidential, and impartial service to small business. The counsellors’ goal is to work with small business owners, providing the support they need, to manage financial difficulties and move forward with a plan. They can work with you to review your business situation and offer ideas about business growth or exit opportunities and pathways.
- Industry Workforce Advisor program – provides support to small-to-medium employers with workforce planning across a wide range of industries. Its goal is to identify solutions to address workforce challenges, connect employers to relevant programs, funding, and initiatives, promote diversity, and facilitate workforce growth. This includes strategies for recruiting underrepresented groups like migrants, young people, women, First Nations individuals, and those with disabilities. You can contact an Industry Workforce Advisor for assistance.
- Mentoring for Growth (M4G) – Free access to volunteer business experts who provide insights, options and suggestions relating to challenges and opportunities you are experiencing in your business. 45-minute mentoring sessions are available to support any business challenge you might have. - Digital Solutions Program – For $110, businesses will receive up to 4 hours support from a Digital Advisor. They can help business owners develop a Digital Action Plan to support the business’s own digital requirements and develop a path for implementing digital technology. The plan will include recommendations for digital tools or any training the business may need. Register here.
- ecoBiz program – a free program for small-to-medium business to develop an action plan to help your business save money on utilities and increase efficiencies. Watch this quick video to see how ecoBiz can save your business money, while also making your operation more sustainable. - The Griffith Tax Clinic offers free tax assistance to people who don't have access to professional help. It's run by students from Griffith University who are supervised by experienced tax experts. They can help you with tax advice, dealing with the tax office, understanding your tax return, and more. You can apply online here. They also have free tax education seminars and useful videos about superannuation and cash flow on YouTube.
- Small Business Debt Helpline – free, independent, and confidential service for small business owners in financial difficulty. The team of qualified financial counsellors will listen and give practical advice to help you get back on track. You can reach them on 1800 413 828.

AusIndustry funded programs
AusIndustry funded program are currently available for small business (under 20 staff) in the region, with Regional Business HQ delivering face to face and online courses across Queensland over the next 3 years.
This exciting program comprises two elements:
- Free workshops for small business owners – these are being planned throughout Queensland for rollout over the next 3 years. Regional Business HQ's websitewill be updated with workshop dates and schedules as workshops are planned over the next 3 years. Topics will fit under these 5 high-level topics areas
- Introduction to digitalising your business
- Websites and selling online
- Social media and digital marketing
- Using small business software
- Online security and data privacy
- 1:1 digital support - Businesses will receive up to 4 hours support from a Digital Advisor to develop a Digital Action Plan that will assist them to understand their own digital requirements and develop a path for implementing digital technology. The plan will include recommendations for digital tool or any training the business may need. Where required a business will be referred to a Digital Expert for more tailored support and training. Promote positive mental health at work
The Managing Psychosocial Hazards at Work Code of Practice 2022 (the Code) along with amendments to the Work Health and Safety Regulation, are important steps in keeping Queensland workplaces safe, healthy and productive.
The Code provides practical guidance and examples on how to comply with existing obligations. A small business toolkit is available containing links and resources to help you build a mentally healthy workplace.
In a recording, Queensland Mental Health Ambassador Hayley Lewis shares her inspiring story and experiences as a small business owner and Tanya Orzulak from WHSQ's Psychological Health Unit shares how you can identify and control psychosocial risks in your workplace.

Business Support Programs
The Department of Employment Small Business and Training have many business support programs.
The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training administers grants and programs to help Queensland small business continue to recover, grow and thrive by committing grant funds for businesses to increase key capabilities, embrace innovation, and assist high-growth businesses to capitalise on opportunities. The grants open and close and you can refer to the Small Business Grants Schedule to see which ones are due to open.
HR Support Grants - HR Support and Advice
- Up to $5,000 is available to provide immediate human resources (HR) support and advice
- A two-step process with Step 1 being engaging with an Industry Workforce Advisor to develop a Workforce Plan and step two being applying for the grant
Mentoring for Growth is a free business mentoring service available to Qld business owners and offers insights, options, and suggestions relating to challenges and opportunities that may be facing your business such as:-
- Business Development
- Growth and Marketing strategies
- Finance and Cashflow
- Export and Investment
- Human Resources
Small Business Financial Counselling Program

Incentives and Wage Subsidies for Trainees and Apprentices
As an employer of an Australian Apprentice you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Australian Government to help with hiring and training an apprentice.

ATO Support for Small Business
ATO have launched a new online learning platform, Essentials to strengthen your small business
Essentials to strengthen your small business has been developed to provide free and professional education to support small businesses thrive. It provides a range of courses covering:
• business lifecycle stages – idea, start-up, day-to-day, change and exit
• reporting obligations – for example, businesses with employees, GST or fringe benefits tax
• learning needs – what good record keeping is, how to improve cash flow or grow the business
• other circumstances – for example, help setting up a business, checking if the business is viable or needs to be closed.
