2022 Shade Sail Projects

Five playgrounds and one set of fitness equipment will receive shade sails this financial year.

Shade sails provide ultraviolet protection benefitting park users with a cooler and more comfortable climate to play under and ensuring that the play and fitness equipment can be enjoyed all year round.

Council recognises the importance of shaded play areas and where possible locate playground equipment next to existing natural shade. Where this is not possible the team undertake landscaping work to plan for future shade or consider the use of built shade structures.

Please note that the date ranges shown include when holes will be excavated in the playground area for the shade sail posts, time for the concrete to set and when the shade sail itself will be installed. There will be time in-between when the shade sail posts are installed and when the shade sail will be installed. This time allows for the concrete to cure and factors in the availability of our contractors.

For safety reasons playgrounds will be closed during excavation works and post installations. We will open the playgrounds once safe and will return to install the shade sail over one to two days.

Projects commenced 19 April and will be finalised by 18 August 2022.
