Work will soon be underway at the intersection of Goodwood and Lucketts Road to improve safety in the area.

A project to improve safety at the Goodwood Road and Lucketts Road intersection will begin soon with the construction of right and left turn lanes planned for the area.

Bundaberg Regional Council's roads and drainage portfolio spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor said the Doolbi intersection, near Childers, was a main route for many who were travelling on to the Bruce Highway.

“More than 1600 vehicles which travel along Lucketts Road per day and 3200 vehicles along the state-controlled Goodwood Road all utilise this intersection,” he said.

“It's an important connection for our road users and one that needs to be fixed due to the current configuration not being suitable for the ever-increasing traffic in the area.”

Cr Trevor said the project, which was awarded to local contractor SGQ, would begin in February and was expected to be completed by the end of the financial year, weather permitting.

“This project will improve the layout and alignment of Lucketts and Goodwood Roads as well as Station Road and Mamminos Road which run close by,” he said.

“There will also be an increase in signage and lighting in the area.

“Once complete, the projects is aimed to improve safety for all road users of this intersection.”

The project is partly funded by the Federal Government's Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program with cooperation from the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
