East Water Tower has been a significant visual landmark in Bundaberg for over 100 years.
The Bundaberg community has strong ties to this iconic structure, and we would love to hear your stories and memories.
As part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s Conservation Management Plan, we are inviting residents and visitors to submit their remembrances and personal histories associated with the tower.
Have you climbed the eight stories back in the days when it was open to the public, or heard tales from a relative about their work on the water system? We want to hear from you!
Constructed in 1902, East Water Tower is the tallest circular brick water tower remaining in Queensland and was a key element in Bundaberg’s first reticulated water system.
Considered a masterpiece of brickwork, the tower’s innovative engineering and design offered a solution to increasing water pressure to allow a reticulated water supply system to operate effectively over Bundaberg’s very flat terrain.
We are collecting personal stories and memories to help understand and celebrate the tower’s importance to the social history of the Bundaberg Region.
Once collected, we look forward to sharing them with the wider community, to continue the East Water Tower story into the next century.
The East Water Tower Conservation Management Plan will be prepared by consultants Converge Heritage and Community, funded through the Queensland Government Community Sustainability Action (CSA) Grants for Community Heritage.
