There is a lot happening in animal management in the Bundaberg Region and at Elliott Heads.

There are strong views for & against dogs at Elliott Heads and Council would like to hear from the wider community on the new signs, new barking dogs technology, the dog park survey and the State’s advice on the use of the Elliott Heads sand flats.

Come along and talk to the Council team about:

Dogs at Elliott Heads

When: Drop in any time from 8am – 10am Saturday 6 November

Where: Next to the car park near Driftwood Cafe (look for the Council marquee).

The format is informal, with an opportunity to answer a community survey.

At 8.15am til 8:30am and 9.15 til 9.30 there will be short 15 minute presentations:

"What Council is doing to best manage dogs in the Bundaberg Region".

All the big questions will be answered (and even some small ones):

  • Balancing the needs of dog lovers and those adversely impacted by dogs
  • New technology being trialled to address the issue of barking dogs
  • How can we encourage all dog owners to scoop the poop?
  • Where can you let your dog run?
  • Where do you need a leash?

Proposed new signs




  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

    There are strong and opposing community views about dogs at Elliott Heads. Some believe the situation with dogs is quite bad, with others believing there are no problems with dogs at Elliott Heads at all. 

    There is community interest in a dog park, and interest from dog owners in an "off leash" area where dogs can run and exercise freely.

    There is strong agreement that dog owners need to clean up after their dogs. Some think the majority of dog owners do clean up after their dogs; some have advised that certain dog owners don’t do this. 

    Council would like to hear from the wider community about dogs at Elliott Heads, including your views on the new ‘no dogs’ and ‘on leash’ signs, the State’s advice that the Elliott Heads sand flats can be used as off leash and possible locations for any future fenced off leash dog park (please note: Council has not completed the assessment of the regional dog park survey; and towns for the next two dog parks have not been determined).
