Bundaberg Regional Council Biosecurity Plan and Implementation Plan
Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, local governments are required to maintain a Biosecurity Plan for their local government area, as outlined in section 53 of the Act. Bundaberg Regional Council’s current Biosecurity Plan is due for renewal, with its existing extension expiring at the end of 2026.
As part of the renewal process, Council has elected to prepare two documents to replace the previous single plan.
The Biosecurity Plan is intended for stakeholders and the broader community. It outlines the General Biosecurity Obligation, identifies priority invasive species within the Bundaberg Local Government Area, and describes strategies for managing these risks.
The Implementation Plan is a supporting document that details how Council will meet its own General Biosecurity Obligation. It explains the strategic, risk‑based decision‑making process used in developing the Biosecurity Plan and describes Council’s ongoing operational program for managing invasive plants and animals across the region. This document should be read in conjunction with the Bundaberg Regional Council Biosecurity Plan.
These plans support two key focus areas of the Bundaberg Regional Council Corporate Plan 2026–2031: 3. Robust Economy and 4. Natural Assets.
The Biosecurity Team is progressing the development of the new plans with the next stage in the process being a public consultation phase.
The drafted Biosecurity Plan and Implementation Plan can be reviewed on this page via the attachments section.
Public consultation opens Monday 30 March closes Sunday 12 April 2026.
