Update - March 2024

Work on this project will start the week beginning Monday 25 March 2024 and is expected to be completed by 30 June 2024.

The area will be fenced off for safety reasons during the project.

During the project there will be periods of noise, as well as temporary pathway closures and use of carparks for project vehicles and machinery.

Project

The timber boardwalk at the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens will be upgraded as part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s Parks, Sport & Natural Areas Capital Renewal Program 2022 – 2023.

This upgrade will ensure the Gardens continues to support the recreational needs of regional, national and international visitors.

Boardwalk

The existing timber boardwalk has reached the end of its life and will be removed and replaced with a new boardwalk.

The new boardwalk will have a section of walkway removed to improve water flow and reduce nutrients in the lake.

The community will be able to continue to sit and enjoy birdwatching from the central boardwalk, and access other areas of the Gardens.

Materials

The new boardwalk will be made of plastic composite, including recycled plastics.

This will provide the look of a timber boardwalk and be more durable against animal droppings and weather events, reducing maintenance.
