Share thoughts on Walla Street Skate Park design

Artist impressions showing what the upgraded Walla Street Skate Park could look like have been released and skate park users are being encouraged to share their thoughts.

The conceptual design has been developed following community consultation sessions with skaters and park users in February.

Feedback received in those sessions has been incorporated into the initial design which took into consideration a number of elements including safety, catering to different skill levels and supporting infrastructure like pathways.

Convic, which is collaborating on the design with LA3 Pty Ltd, has developed a video “fly through” of the conceptual design which park users can watch before completing a brief survey.

The video explains that the draft conceptual design has incorporated three key skate areas with an intermediate bowl, street section and beginner bowl which will cater for all users from experienced riders to beginners.

In addition to the bowl upgrades, supporting infrastructure has been proposed that addresses safety and connectivity concerns.

“Stairs into the park will be connected to existing pathways and will be skateable, so suitable for competitions and demos,” the video said.

“Sports level lighting will be included to allow for safe use at night.

“We’ve included plenty of shade and seating to allow users to take a break and spectators to watch the action.”

Walla Street Skate Park users can watch the video and provide their feedback here.

The responses received as part of this process will be used to feed into finalising the concept design of the skate park.

The survey is open until Sunday, September 20.

The Central Park upgrade is supported by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
