Millbank Drainage Study
Council has engaged AECOM Australia Pty Ltd, one of Australia’s leading Engineering Consultants, to undertake a Drainage Study at Millbank, Bundaberg.
Why is Council doing this Drainage Study?
Council manages more than $300 million of stormwater infrastructure across the Bundaberg Regional Council local government area.
Like most regional cities in Queensland, Bundaberg has historically developed on top of overland flow paths which can present localised stormwater drainage issues for residents.
Council has developed and implemented a risk-based Stormwater Management Strategy (the Strategy) to manage stormwater infrastructure and overland flooding proactively and sustainably across the Bundaberg region.
The Strategy has identified the highest risk areas within the Bundaberg region due to overland flooding and includes a framework for prioritising stormwater drainage projects. This is based on defined level of service criteria such as public health and safety (i.e. risk to human life and above floor level flooding of habitable structures), functionality of existing infrastructure and financial sustainability.
You can read more about the strategy here.
The purpose of this Drainage Study is to provide Council with a better understanding of the function of the existing drainage system and determine how this is best managed or optimised to reduce the risks associated with overland flooding.
In developing the Drainage Study, Council is seeking your input to help us better understand any stormwater issues in the area, and concerns with respect to overland flooding. Your ideas and local knowledge will be vitally important in shaping the outcomes of the Drainage Study.
The Drainage Study is being delivered over 3 phases:
