A new accessible toilet facility has been added to the centrally located Cordalba Park as part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s masterplan project for the site.

Council sought feedback from local residents which identified that recreational facilities needed to be improved.

Divisional representative Councillor Bill Trevor said the addition of the new amenity in Cordalba was great news for the community.

“A toilet facility in the park had been identified as a fundamental community priority for the area and it was therefore incorporated into the masterplan for the site and featured in the concept design released for community feedback in 2023,” he said.

“The new toilet facility is now operational and will ensure friends and family can enjoy their time in one of the region’s wonderful parks which will continue to be developed through the masterplan.”

Council’s Parks and Gardens portfolio spokesperson Councillor Wayne Honor said installing the toilet delivered a key resource for the community as stage one of the masterplan project.

“The installation of the new accessible toilet facility is a great addition to this park which sits in the heart of the Cordalba community,” Cr Honor said.

“Community consultation and Council’s engagement sessions with students of nearby Cordalba State School helped inform the development of the Cordalba Park masterplan design.

“The concept design for the park includes new play equipment, pathways and a nature play area beneath the existing fig trees.”

Under the masterplan, the existing Cordalba war memorial cenotaph will have paving and seating added to the surrounding area.

The concept design also includes a disability carpark space to be created on Holme Street, adjacent to the new toilet facility.

The concept design for the Cordalba Park masterplan is now finalised, and the next phase of the project is to undertake detailed design works.

More information about the masterplan and project updates can be found here.

Residents are being asked to have their say on plans to revitalise Cordalba Park.

The Cordalba community is being invited to have a say on future plans to transform a recreational space into a play facility for children of all ages.

As part of Bundaberg Regional Council’s Capital Works Program 2021 – 2022 a concept design will be developed for new recreational facilities at Cordalba Park, off Queen Street.

Parks and Garden portfolio spokesperson Cr Wayne Honor said feedback from the local community had identified the need for more challenging play opportunities for older youth.

“We have heard the message from residents loud and clear and now we want to work together with the community to finetune what type of equipment should be utilised in this space for the benefit of our youth,” he said.

“From climbing walls to a multi-use games area, bike pump tracks or anything in between, we want to hear what would make the area thrive while keeping our young people entertained and participating in recreational activities.

“We are also happy to announce that plans to build a single-cubicle accessibility compliant toilet facility will also form part of this project.”

Cr Honor said as part of the consultation process a community session will be held at Cordalba Park on Thursday 9 June where residents could drop in anytime between 3 pm to 5 pm to find out more and fill in a survey.

“Council has also organised with Cordalba State School to speak to students about the project and we will have an online survey open until midnight on Sunday 19 June on the Our Bundaberg Region website,” he said.

“It is important to hear from residents to ensure the concept design is developed with community feedback in mind.

“Your input will help identify what recreational facilities are important to this area.”

The survey for the Cordalba Park masterplan is now live and residents are encouraged to have their say here.
