Bundaberg North SHS Perspective

As Head of Department (Maths) for Bundaberg North State High School, I am always looking for ways to engage students with the community and for students to see uses of maths in reality. Through this action I hope students set themselves career goals to achieve for the future.

Through the Bundaberg Jobs Commitment we have been able to engage with IT professionals, professional engineers, certified valuers and university lecturers who have interacted with our students through a variety of activities. We have had an immerse day involving the whole of Year 8 building a bridge in a competition linked to the reality of working as a team and satisfying cost, environmental and other criteria. We have also been fortunate to have a certified valuer link General Maths concepts to a specialist role in the finance industry.

We as a school have appreciated the time and effort that the Bundaberg Jobs Commitment team have invested in our students and look forward to future collaborations.
